What is UPick, exactly?

The short version

UPick is an iOS app that turns "what do you want to watch?" into a swipe game. Two or more people in a pair swipe yes / no / must-watch / seen / maybe on movies and TV shows. When you both swipe yes on the same title, it's a match and lands in your shared Watch List. Nobody sees what the other person individually swiped — only the matches.

Who is it for?

Couples, roommates, long-distance partners, parent-teen rotations, friend groups picking the next watch party. Anyone whose answer to "what should we watch?" is a 20-minute argument.

How is it different from Netflix's "Two Profiles" recommendation engines?

Recommendation engines suggest titles to each of you separately. They don't solve the agreement problem — you still have to talk it out. UPick produces a literal list of titles you've both already said yes to. The agreement is the artifact.

Privacy

Can my partner see what I individually swiped?

No. Each person swipes privately on their own device. Only the intersection — titles you both said yes to — lands on the shared Watch List. Your individual swipes never appear in your partner's app.

Does UPick sell my data?

We never sell individually-identifiable data. We do offer an opt-in aggregate taste licensing program for industry research, with a k-anonymity floor of 50 users per cohort. That means no insight licensed to a third party can ever be traced back to fewer than 50 people. You can opt out anytime: /privacy-choices. The default is opt-in (with full disclosure in onboarding); opting out has zero effect on your app experience.

Do you train AI on my swipes?

No. Your swipes feed your taste profile (24-dim vector) which improves the in-app recommender for you. We don't train generic AI models on user data.

Pricing

Is UPick free?

Yes. The free tier includes 100 swipes refreshed twice a day, pairing with one partner, matches, watch list, three-word reviews, and the 1990s decade. No ads on the swipe stack itself. See pricing.

What does Premium unlock?

Unlimited swipes, no ads, all 9 decades (40s through 20s), Chemistry Score, full taste profile insights, 10 must-watches per day, 10 super-nos per day. Four tier options: Monthly $3.99, Yearly $19.99, Lifetime $24.99, One-Time $17.99 (current features forever, no future-features promise).

What's the Early Adopter / Founding Member tier?

$9.99 one-time, available only in the launch window (first 90 days). You get every current feature, every future feature, and a Founding Member badge visible on your profile to anyone you pair with. After the 90-day window closes, the tier is gone — Lifetime ($24.99) becomes the only "pay once, get everything" option.

How do I cancel?

Profile → Subscription → Cancel. Or directly through iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → UPick. Two taps either way. We don't gate the cancellation flow.

Streaming + Matching

Do you support every streaming service?

We surface availability for: Netflix, Hulu, Max, Disney+, Prime Video, Paramount+, Peacock, Apple TV+, and most others. When a match lands, the card shows which services have it and deep-links straight in. We don't host any video ourselves.

What's the catalog size?

Around 1.3M titles via TMDB. Movies + TV. Updated nightly. We focus on real titles (1-vote-count floor) so search isn't a wasteland of cold catalog noise.

What about theatrical / in-theaters titles?

Yes. Match a title that's "now playing" or "upcoming" and you'll see Fandango / AMC / Atom Tickets deep links. Date-night flow.

What's a "Must Watch" vs a "Yes" vs a "Super No"?

Yes / No are normal swipes. Must-Watch (5/day free, 10/day premium) means "if my partner also says anything but no, this is happening." A pair's mutual Must-Watch fires a Super Match celebration. Super-No (5/day free, 10/day premium) is the inverse — a hard veto. Maybe (the bottom button) is unlimited and resurfaces 14 days + 1,300 swipes later for a clean second look.

Pairing

How do I pair with someone?

One person taps Pairs → Create Pair Code → shares the 6-digit code. The other taps Pairs → Enter code. Done. Pair codes expire 24 hours after creation. You can pair with multiple people simultaneously — friend group plus partner plus parents all distinct lists.

What happens when I unpair?

The pair becomes inactive but stays in your "Past Pairs" list. Your shared match history is archived per user — you can still see it. The other person stops seeing new matches with you, but their past list is preserved too.

Does my partner need an iPhone?

Yes — UPick is iOS-only at launch. Android is being scoped for 2027.

Affiliates + Ads

What's the deal with affiliate links?

When you tap "Watch on Amazon," "Subscribe to Max," or buy a theatrical ticket from a UPick match card, we earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra. Full disclosure: /affiliates.

What about ads?

Modest, AdMob-served, free-tier only. Never on the swipe stack. Premium removes them entirely. Disclosure: /disclosures.
